Charles Casassa, MD is an Assistant Professor and Vice Chair for Academic Affairs within the Department of Neurology at Loma Linda University Medical Center. He received his MD degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine, and then completed both Neurology Residency and Fellowship in Clinical Neurophysiology (with focus on EEG) at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center/Harvard Medical School in Boston, MA.
His primary clinical interests are in the field of epilepsy, particularly in the treatment/evaluation of patients with medically refractory epilepsy and in critical care EEG monitoring.
Academically, he is primarily focused on medical education. at both the medical ÁÔÆæÖØ¿Ú and resident level. He has served as Associate Clerkship Director for the Neurology/Psychiatry clerkship for ÁÔÆæÖØ¿Ús at Loma Linda University School of Medicine. He chairs and serves on a number of school of medicine and departmental committees and also leads the Academic Certificate Track, which is a longitudinal program for ÁÔÆæÖØ¿Ús interested in careers in academic medicine. He is also active as an attending physician for neurology residents and fellows. He has received numerous teaching awards, including School of Medicine Teacher of the Year (2023) and has been recognized as "Teacher of the Year" by Loma Linda Neurology residents (2021, 2023).
He has been involved with a number of research projects within the field of neurology and in medical education.
